Signs of a water leak

Leaks can come from different sources. From leaking shower traps to leaking water mains, leaking water causes long term damage to properties and can be costly if not repaired in time.

Tell-Tale Signs

High water bills

Water bills normally remain consistent, a possible and common sign of a leak in a pipework system is a high municipal water bill. Make sure to monitor your monthly consumption and make note of any unexplained dramatic increases.

Mould growth and peeling paint

Moisture can stimulate mould and mildew growth within 24 to 48 hours. When mould appears on surfaces there’s a likelihood that it is caused by porous materials retaining water. This can be accompanied by peeling paint or a bad smell. Mould can quickly grow out of control and so it is important to act fast at the first signs of a water leak to prevent serious damage.

Low water pressure

Low water pressure is another sign that a pipework system might be compromised. Water escaping from a damaged pipe or fitting could have an adverse effect on your water pressure.

Structural damage

Even a small leak can over time lead to serious structural damage. If you notice any cracking and deteriorating walls, ceilings and floors you should contact a plumber immediately.
